They Had No Answer

 Matthew 22:41-46:

“If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?”

     The answer to this question was a marvelous

and mysterious fact with which the religious leaders

in the time of Christ had to grapple.  If they were

to accept Jesus as the Christ, they would have to

admit that David had called Him Lord.  But, the fact

remained, whether they accepted Him or not – most did

not - that the son of David was also the Lord.  The

Son of Man was also the Son of God!

     On another occasion, the same type of people were

infuriated in John 5:18, “because he ... said also that

God was his Father, making himself equal with God.”

They got it backwards.  In reality, He being God made

Himself into a man.

Philippians 2:5-8: “Christ Jesus: Who, being in the

form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with

God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon

him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness

of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled

himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death

of the cross.”

I Tim. 3:16, “And great is the mystery of godliness,

God was manifest in the flesh...”.  This is the great

mystery of the Incarnation:  John 1:1, 14, “The Word was

God...and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.”

     This is the answer to Jesus' question: Christ is

the son of David, because David's “Lord” -- the Christ,

the Savior, the Creator, the Eternal One -- became a man

through the lineage of David.  He is both God and man in

one person, the God-man.

     Many today are not able to answer this same question,

because they are not willing to accept the Bible as the

Word of God; and, many who are willing to accept this are

unwilling to accept some of its plain teachings at face

value.  Therefore, a multitude of people, both "Christian"

and non-Christian, are enemies of Jesus Christ, though

they may claim otherwise, because they believe in and

preach a false christ and a false gospel.
