They Had No Answer
Matthew 22:41-46:If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?
The answer to this question was a marvelous
and mysterious fact with which the religious leadersin the time of Christ had to grapple. If they wereto accept Jesus as the Christ, they would have to
admit that David had called Him Lord. But, the factremained, whether they accepted Him or not most didnot - that the son of David was also the Lord. The
Son of Man was also the Son of God!
On another occasion, the same type of people were
infuriated in John 5:18, because he ... said also thatGod was his Father, making himself equal with God.They got it backwards. In reality, He being God made
Himself into a man.
Philippians 2:5-8: Christ Jesus: Who, being in the
form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal withGod: But made himself of no reputation, and took uponhim the form of a servant, and was made in the likenessof men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbledhimself, and became obedient unto death, even the deathof the cross.
I Tim. 3:16, And great is the mystery of godliness,
God was manifest in the flesh.... This is the greatmystery of the Incarnation: John 1:1, 14, The Word wasGod...and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.
This is the answer to Jesus' question: Christ is
the son of David, because David's Lord -- the Christ, the Savior, the Creator, the Eternal One -- became a manthrough the lineage of David. He is both God and man inone person, the God-man.
Many today are not able to answer this same question,
because they are not willing to accept the Bible as theWord of God; and, many who are willing to accept this areunwilling to accept some of its plain teachings at facevalue. Therefore, a multitude of people, both "Christian"
and non-Christian, are enemies of Jesus Christ, thoughthey may claim otherwise, because they believe in andpreach a false christ and a false gospel.
