Word for Today, encouragement and comfort straight from the Bible

Posted by: masinick <masinick@...>

Dear friends,

I have not written recently, but I am prompted to write today for a
particular friend, and since this person can use these words of
scripture today, my prayer is that you can use them as well. The Word
of the Lord today comes from the Old Testament prophet, Isaiah, from the
fortieth chapter.

is a printable link to the entire chapter so you can either read it
online or you can go directly to your trusty Bible, which I strongly
encourage each of you to do on a daily basis.

Here are a few highlights from the reading:

1Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.

2Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare
is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of
the LORD's hand double for all her sins.

3The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of
the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

4Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be
made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places
plain:

5And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see
it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

and

28Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God,
the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is
weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

29He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he
increaseth strength.

30Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall
utterly fall:

31But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they
shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint.

If any of you are troubled today, trust in the Lord and delight in His
Word, as we read in Psalm 37. Take comfort in His Word, as we read here
in Isaiah 40. Confess our sin before Him, as we read in 1 John 1:9, and
He is faithful to forgive us our sin and cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.

Dear Lord, as we read Your Word, first cleanse our hearts as we admit
our need of cleansing. Our sin has separated us from You. Create in us
a clean heart, O God. Restore to us the joy of our salvation. Our hope
is in You and in You alone. We yearn to be with You forever. While we
are in this place, keep our minds clearly mindful of You. Give us
boldness to share what You have done in our lives with others. Grant us
Your peace, precious Lord, and a lasting hope. I ask these things all
because of Jesus, and only because of Him do I dare approach Your Throne
of grace, but in Him, I am confident in all things. Thank you for
hearing our prayer. Amen.
