Dear friends,
Possibly more than any other name ever named, the Name of Jesus Christ
is maligned. Sometimes you cannot even mention God at all in public,
but often you can. But go a bit further and name the Name of Jesus
Christ, in anything other than a derogatory context, and chances are
very good that it will be you that receives the derogatory looks,
banishment, quite possibly persecution of one form or another.
It really goes to show how much things have changed over the years.
When I was young, I did not understand this. I could not imagine
anyone rejecting Christ. Why would they, I thought?
Well, apparently many people, first of all, do not like to be sold that
they are sinners, even though all have sinned and fall short of the
glory of God (Romans 3:10, 3:23). They see no need to believe in Him,
nor do they see the reality of perishing in their sin. Jesus is the
remedy (JJohn 3:16), but few will receive Him.
Here is the truth, straight from the Word of God:
John 3:16-18 (King James Version)
16 For God so
loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He
that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is
condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only
begotten Son of God.

The pietistic movements of to-day have none of the rugged reality of
the New Testament about them; there is nothing about them that needs
the Death of Jesus Christ; all that is required is a pious
atmosphere, and prayer and devotion. This type of experience is not
supernatural nor miraculous, it did not cost the passion of God, it
is not dyed in the blood of the Lamb, not stamped with the hall-mark
of the <span style="border-bottom: 1px dashed rgb(0, 102, 204); background: transparent none repeat scroll 0% 50%; cursor: pointer; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="yshortcuts"
id="lw_1227992165_4">Holy Ghost; it has not that mark on it which makes men say, as
they look with awe and wonder - "That is the work of God Almighty."
That and nothing else is what the New Testament talks about.
The type of Christian experience in the New Testament is that of
personal passionate devotion to the Person of Jesus Christ. Every
other type of Christian experience, so called, is detached from the
Person of Jesus. There is no regeneration, no being born again into
the Kingdom in which Christ lives, but only the idea that He is our
Pattern. In the New Testament Jesus Christ is Saviour long before He
is Pattern. To-day He is being despatched as the Figurehead of a
Religion, a mere Example. He is that, but He is infinitely more; He
is salvation itself, He is the Gospel of God.
Jesus said, "When He the Spirit of truth is come . . . He
shall
glorify Me." When I commit myself to the revelation made in the New
Testament, I receive from God the gift of the Holy Spirit Who begins
to interpret to me what Jesus did and does in me subjectively all
that Jesus Christ did for me objectively.
