Word for Today,Thursday, February 19, 2009

Dear friends,

The author of today's PCCWeb Daily Devotional certainly caught my
attention, and I agree with his main point: what we really need is Jesus
and we need the truth exposed and taught, even if it is uncomfortable to
hear at times.

If I were walking down the street and I did not see a deep pit (or
worse, something like a landmine ahead), don't you think it would be
proper if someone who was with me realized that I was unaware of the
perils ahead and warned me, maybe even abruptly? If it saved my life,
wouldn't it be worth it?

Well, we have become dull and complacent in this world around us. For
the most part, we have most of the physical things that we need, and
many pleasures far and above the essentials. These can be perilous
things, though, because they numb our senses to the ever present dangers
around us, the perils of sin. Worse, a misinformed understanding of who
God is and who His Son, Jesus Christ is, can lead us to missing Him
entirely, when it is He who is the Source of our hope, and the One who
secures our eternal future! Moreover, He saves us from the penalty of
sin, and when we follow Him and seek to be obedient to Him, we sin less
and less (though in ourselves, we are NOT sinless - we know that, don't we)?

Therefore, I am sounding the alarm today. Make sure that you understand
who Jesus Christ is. Christ is The Chosen One of Israel, The Messiah,
the Coming King that the entire Jewish culture had always waited for,
but somehow, most of them were expecting something else, someone else?
Why? Because Jesus came humble, as a servant. They were expecting a
mighty, militant warrior.

Well, don't kid yourself. When Jesus returns, He WILL come, not as that
Sacrificial Lamb, but as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He will
be a roaring Lion, devouring those who mocked God and refused the
provisions that were offerred to them. Those that rejected Christ will
be rejected.

Each one of us has a choice today: to either accept and embrace, while
there is still time, the free gift of forgiveness and salvation that
Jesus Christ obtained, when He took our shame and our sorrow and bore it
on His own body in a vicious crucifixion on the Cross. He became sin
and He took it all, and was even abandoned by His own Father, God. Only
Jesus Christ could overcome those obstacles and He did, arising again,
conquering both sin and death.

Believing that by faith, and trusting in Jesus Christ as the only one
capable of erasing the power of sin and death - that is the way to be
saved from the mine fields of life and secure an eternal home with God
forever.

So I ask you, do you know for certain that you have an eternal home
reserved for you in Heaven? You can be 100% certain if you place your
trust, not in what you've done or what others have done, only in what
Jesus has done. He did it for me, and He did it for you, but it is only
useful to you if you accept the gift. If you throw out a present, it
has no value. If you ignore the gift, it has no value, but if you
accept the gift and use it, the gift has eternal value.

Your choice.

Yours in Christ,
Brian
