If I were the devil, I would deceive people into thinking
that all the bad things I did to them were really caused by God, and all the
good things God does for them – well, they’re just a matter of luck. Wouldn’t
it be fun to watch my Archenemy – God – get all the blame while I have all the
fun?

 

If I were the devil, I would deceive people into thinking
that I didn’t really exist. Just a figment of religion’s warped imagination. I
might even give them a funny caricature to represent me – with horns and a
pointed tail. Not taking me seriously might keep Christians from using their
God-given authority.

 

If I were the devil, I would deceive people into thinking
they’re not good enough for church. After all, the people there seem to really
have their lives in order.  Or maybe I’d
convince them church isn’t good enough for them. After all, those people
certainly aren’t perfect, are they? 
Isolating Christians from the Body would make them weaker, easier prey.

 

If I were the devil, I would deceive Christians into
thinking they’re just too busy to read their bible. I’d tell them it could wait
for another day when things aren’t so hectic. I sleep better when that
two-edged sword stays on the shelf.

 

If I were the devil, I would deceive people into thinking
there is no hell. If they think everyone goes to heaven, there’ll be no need
for repentance or salvation. After all, people should live how they want
to.  Or I could tell them hell is the
ultimate party and they shouldn’t miss it. After all, the more the merrier,
right?

 

While this devotional is a tongue-in-cheek essay, these
things really are a part of the devil’s arsenal, and they’ve been working for
him way too long. Don’t let him win in your life.
