>From reading her newsletter a few months ago, I know that Debbie
and her husband Kevin, a physician, had to deal with two serious
disease outbreaks within a week of returning to Papua New Guinea
after visiting family last year.
Our missionaries are putting their lives at risk and need our constant
prayer. Think of the missionaries whose plane got shot down in Peru
last month, killing mom and baby. Think of the three New Tribes
missionaries (Mark, Rick and Dave) who are missing seven years
after being kidnapped by Columbian terrorists.
Are they still alive on earth -- or alive in heaven?
I also think of my neighbors, S. and T., who flew to a Central Asian
country two weeks ago with their two preschool children. This Muslim
country, formerly part of the USSR, does not allow missionaries,
so they are going in another "official" job capacity, and intend to
stay long term. Even their e-mail messages have to use code words
for Christian terms.
Do your children know much about missionaries? May I recommend
the book Missionary Stories and the Millers by Mildred Martin?
This is such an awesome book, and is available in many home
school catalogs. Our copy has been read over and over and over
again.
I also recommend Voice of the Martyrs, a ministry to persecuted
Christians around the world. This web link is for their
children's page. Besides their magazine for adults, they also
send out a free newsletter for home schooled children which
features a different country in each issue.
