We Love God!

God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

When you are forgotten or neglected or purposely set at naught, and you sting and hurt with the insult or the oversight, but your heart is happy, being counted worthy to suffer for Christ-that is dying to self. When your good is evil spoken of, when your wishes are crossed, your advice disregarded, your opinions ridiculed and you refuse to let anger rise in your heart, or even defend yourself, but take all in patient loving silence-that is dying to self. When you lovingly and patiently bear any disorder, any irregularity, or any annoyance, when you can stand face to face with waste, folly, extravagance, spiritual insensibility, and endure it as Jesus endured it-that is dying to self. When you are content with any food, any offering, any raiment, any climate, any society, any attitude, any interruption by the will of God-that is dying to self. When you never care to refer to yourself in conversation, or to record your own good works, or itch after commendation, when you can truly love to be unknown-that is dying to self. When you see your brother prosper and have his needs met and can honestly rejoice with him in spirit and feel no envy nor question God, while your own needs are far greater and in desperate circumstances-that is dying to self. When you can receive correction and reproof from one of less stature than yourself, can humbly submit inwardly as well as outwardly, finding no rebellion or resentment rising up within your heart-that is dying to self.

    Agreed!!! Glad to see someone else is giving this a spin.

    Many of my friends who enjoy prog rock have said that they think that the
    lyrical content is kinda weak- I must agree, but I also hear in Neal's
    lyrics and melodies a guy who is just so in love with Jesus and his
    new-found salvation that he kind of lacks the vehicle with which to express
    it.

    For those that don't know what Hallgeir and I are speaking of, Neal Morse is
    the ex-singer from one of the greatest neo-Prog bands around, Spock's Beard.
    Spock's Beard has been gaining a tremendous audience in the prog community
    over the years, as well as spawning an equally great "super group" called
    Transatlantic. (Transatlantic is Morse, Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater,
    Roine Stolt from The Flower Kings and Pete Trewavas from Marillion.)
    Despite Spock's Beard's rising popularity, when Neal received Christ, he
    split from SB to do a completely Christian prog album and to concentrate on
    where God wanted him to be. You can read a part of that testimony here:

    Spock's Beard has continued on, and has released a new album called "Feel
    Euphoria" which is quite cool, but very different from their previous
    outings. Alas, Transatlantic has called it quits. SB and Neal Morse are
    still very friendly and maintain a great relationship (Neal's brother, Alan,
    is SB's guitarist).

    I'd recommend Neal's "Testimony" album heartily. As a long time prog fan,
    it's very cool and very different to hear mellotron and odd meters playing
    while someone exhorts Christ openly.
