This week's devotion:   SEEKING CONFIRMATION He also said to him, "I am the LORD, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to take possession of it." But Abram said, "O Sovereign LORD, how can I know that I will gain possession of it?"  -- Genesis 15:7-8 NIV Here is Abram, the great man of faith... acting just like you and me.  God had just told him once again that Abram would own the land of Canaan, for himself and for all his descendants.  God had brought him across uncharted territory and deposited him smack in the middle of Canaan, against all odds, showing him the land and telling him what was being given to him.  But Abram wanted confirmation.  Abram wanted something more than God's Word on the deal.  He wanted a specific sign, something concrete that he could hang onto.! How many times do you and I do the same thing, asking God for a sign that we are headed in the right direction?  Like Gideon, we keep "putting out fleece", looking for some type of confirmation that we are on course.  And all the while, God is standing there where He wants us to go, patting His foot and waiting for us to get off our blessed assurance and get with the program. I often wish that God would leave me a note on the kitchen table, a detailed note telling me exactly what to do and how.  When I get into that mode of thinking, I forget that God has already left me a note… a long one.  It's bound in leather, and I had the book store engrave my name on the front of it in gold lettering.  All I have to do is lay my Bible on the kitchen table, and I have my wish! Abram didn't have a Bible.  But you and I do.  We have direct access to what God would have us do, printed in black and white, with a little red mixed in sometimes.  In that book are the answers to every question you and I could ever dream up.  If we study it on a regular basis, from cover to cover, we learn the answers to our questions, we can receive confirmation that we are on the right track.  Occasionally He will give us other forms of confirmation, but more often than not, He expects us to use His Word as our map and our guide.!   That's why He went to so much trouble to have it all written down for us and to preserve it so perfectly for these many centuries... so we could have instant access to what He has to say about any given subject.   Seeking confirmation?  Look through the pages in front of you.  It's there.  And the Holy Spirit will help you find it.   From www.thisdaysthoughtorg   QUOTES: It is so easy to deny the nobility of something just because it mingles with our earthly clay. -- George Macdonald   The more you practice prayer, the less difficult you will find it to reach out for help in moments of extremity.
