Sitting at His Feet

Then they sat down there and kept watch over Him.  Matthew 27:36 (Amplified)

After the Roman soldiers had crucified Jesus, they sat down at the foot of the cross. Others on Golgotha’s hill had become accustomed to sitting at His feet, but for the soldiers, this was most likely their first and only time. How different their lives might have been if only they had learned to sit at His feet as the disciples did. I don’t in any way mean to imply that the crucifixion might have been prevented. Rather, they would have known the One who could reach beyond the empty façade of their bravado and meet the deepest longing of their soul.

He still does today. The yearning of our hearts for love, peace, joy, healing, validation – can only be found in a relationship with Jesus Christ and time spent sitting at His feet. If you’re fearful of the future, if you’re under the enemy’s assault, if you ever doubt your preciousness to Him, study the cross. You’ll find a love beyond compare. How different would our lives be if we learned to sit at His feet and keep our focus on Him?
