THE RAINBOW

He never knew the rainbow's colored band
Was caused by a million drops of refracted light;
He saw a sign of God's benevolent hand,
A pledge the Lord would never by water smite
The earth again and cover all the land.
The scientist's facts alone are cold and bare;
Old Noah's truth was God's perennial care.
