The Rounded Poodle
by J. Randal Matheny © 2014
The dog could hardly walk, so fat was he,
A gray and rounded poodle, waddling, winded,
No clearance between the ground and his belly;
That I would look his way, he seemed offended.
Behind him walked his owner, proud and smiling,
Spoiling her precious pet — "Oh, isn't he cute?!" —
Too free with sweets, and in her kindness killing;
Thus so she damns her sated soul, dissolute.
