Two Sides of the Same Coin

Posted by: bneumann848 <bneumann848@...>

God is love (1 John 4:8) – unending, unconditional, unfailing love.  God is also holy (Leviticus 19:2) – absolutely perfect in goodness and righteousness.  Both are fundamental characteristic of His very nature. His love and His holiness cannot be separated any more than one could separate two sides of a coin.  Accepting His love without being accountable to His holiness leads to spiritual lawlessness. Focusing on His holiness without understanding His love leads to legalism.

God’s love and His holiness were both abundantly evident in the life of Jesus. He was approachable to all who came to Him – the rich young ruler, the high priest’s servant, the centurion, the Samaritan woman, the adulterous woman, tax collectors, children – He loved them all.  His unconditional love never gave license to their sin, however. He loved people because they are precious to God – and – He called them to a life of holiness (living right before God). “Go and sin no more.”

No matter who you are, no matter the path you’ve taken, no matter how far you’ve run, Jehovah God, the very One who created you, loves you so much that He gave His Son to redeem you. He’s never given up on you. Once you have given Him your heart, take hold of His hand and begin an expedition through His word (the Bible). He will lead you on a journey of becoming more like Him.
