Mediator

MEDIATOR

BASIC R.C. BELIEF Jesus is the one mediator between God and man, but that lesser mediation can be undertaken by Mary and the saints (I Timothy 2:5).

CHRISTIAN COMMENT In order to introduce other mediators into “Christian” thinking, Satan waited until the reality of Jesus’ presence was lost by a backsliding church. As Jesus became more obscure, most thought of Him as a far-away Majestic King. Because He was thought inapproachable, a second mediator was sought. At the same time, pagan forms were coming into the church, and the female deity of paganism was introduced under the name of Mary, and prayers were made to her.

To most Roman Catholics, Mary is the primary mediator to whom they turn for help.
