That matters not; the devil believes that, perhaps more intelligently than you do; he believes and trembles. That kind of believing saves no man. You may believe the most orthodox creed in Christendom, and perish. Do you trust - for that is the cream of the word 'believe' - do you trust in Jesus? Do you lean your whole weight on Him? Have you that faith which the Puritans used to call 'recumbency' or 'leaning'? This is the faith that saves - faith that falls back into the arms of Jesus, a faith that drops from its own hanging-place into those mighty arms.

These doctrines build upon one another. The doctrine of total depravity establishes what the Bible teaches about the spiritual condition of unregenerate man and leaves one with the question “Who can be saved?” The doctrine of unconditional election then answers the question by declaring God’s sovereign choice in choosing to save people despite their depravity and based solely on God’s sovereign choice to redeem for Himself people from every tribe, tongue and nation. Next, the doctrine of limited atonement explains how God can be perfectly just and yet redeem those sinful people and reconcile them to Himself. The only solution to the depravity of man was for God to provide a Redeemer who would act as their substitute and suffer the wrath of God for their sins. He did this in the death of Christ, who, having been crucified, completely and totally “canceled out the certificate of debt…having nailed it to the cross” (Colossians 2:13-14). That leads to another question: how can a spiritually dead sinner who is hostile to God have faith in the atoning work of Christ on the cross? That question is answered by the doctrine of grace that is known as irresistible grace, the “I” in the acronym TULIP.

    INGREDIENTS

    4 sl Ciabatta Bread
    8 Rashers Smoked Back Bacon
    250 g Cherry Tomatoes
    2 tb Olive Oil
    3 Eggs; (Soft Boiled)
    75 ml Extra Virgin Olive Oil
    2 tb White Wine Vinegar
    1 ts Coarse Grain Mustard
    10 Cos Lettuce Leaves; (inside crisp heart
    ; leaves)
    2 tb Fresh Chives; (chopped)

    INSTRUCTIONS

    SALAD
VINAIGRETTE DRESSING
1. Preheat the oven to 200ºc / 400ºf / Gas Mark 6. Make the croutons,
liberally brush the bread with olive oil on both sides, then cut into
large cubes and bake in the preheated oven for approximately 10
minutes or until golden.
2. Cut the bacon rashers into large strips and fry to crisp in a
shallow pan add the cherry tomatoes and warm through. Meanwhile,
arrange the leaves on four serving plates. Add the crispy bacon and
warm croutons to the salad, chop the egg into wedges and plates on
top.
3. Deglaze the pan with the dressing and drizzle over the salad.
4. Garnish with freshly chopped chives and serve immediately
