By repenting of our hope in the promises of this world – the greatest of which become merely rusted metal and short-lived pleasures – and trusting in God's promises, we develop a new lifestyle of growing obedience to God, rather than following the cadence of our culture. And as our hope in God increases, our obedience to his commands becomes more consistent.
Sinners cannot be reconciled to Him on their own terms. Unregenerate people have no ability to appease God’s anger against sin, satisfy His holy justice, or conform to His standard of righteousness. They are guilty of fatally violating God’s law and face eternal banishment from His presence. The deadly, deceptive premise of all false religion is that sinners, based on their own moral and religious efforts and achievements, can reconcile themselves to God. But God alone designed the way of reconciliation, and only He can initiate the reconciliation of sinners; that God…reconciled us to Himself is precisely the good news of the gospel.
In the top of a double boiler, combine the cream, cheddar, white pepper,
and nutmeg. Stir over hot water until the cheese melts and the mixture is
well blended. Remove from the heat and cool to lukewarm. Generously
butter a large baking sheet and set aside. Cut the bread slices
diagonally and dip each triangle into the cheddar mixture. Place 1/2-inch
apart on the baking sheet and bake until browned and bubbly, about 15
minutes. Serve hot.
