Trials can devastate us because we are often looking as to how they are affecting our lives. Yet when we can die to self and desire God’s glory as a result of them, we are given an entirely different outlook. We can actually rejoice if we know God’s name, God’s glory is being magnified as witnessed through our response to the trial. Specifically how? When others see our Christlike attitude – gratitude verses complaining, kindness verses anger, faith verses anxiety, contentment verses greed and joy verses bitterness – God is glorified. It means very little when godly character and spiritual fruit only appear when things are going well in our lives.
If a man sets out to excel this generation of ministers, he will find it easier to preach than to pray. In the stern reality of the secret place a dagger is placed in his hands. Timid men shrink back from using it. When a man will plunge the knife into self-pleasing, self-confidence, and self-interest, and will wrestle alone with God for His glory, the world will see God working openly, and granting victory on the field of battle.
* Peppers should be seeded and cut into 6 strips each.

Cut bell pepper strips crosswise into halves. Arrange in ungreased
broilerproof pie pan, 9 X 1 1/4-inches or round pan 9 X 2-inches. Sprinkle
with cheese, olives and red pepper. Set oven control to broil. Broil
peppers with tops 3 to 4 inches from heat until cheese is melted, about 3
minutes.
