We Love God!

God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

Dying to self is not a thing we do once for all. There may be an initial dying when God first shows these things, but ever after it will be a constant dying, for only so can the Lord Jesus be revealed constantly through us. All day long the choice will be before us in a thousand ways. It will mean no plans, no time, no money, no pleasure of our own. It will mean a constant yielding to those around us, for our yieldedness to God is measured by our yieldedness to man. Every humiliation, everyone who tries and vexes us, is God's way of breaking us, so that there is a yet deeper channel in us for the Life of Christ.

The basic truth of the resurrection undergirds a number of other truths. 1. It gives evidence that the Word of God is totally true and reliable. Jesus precisely when and in the way He had predicted (see Mt. 12:40; 16:21; 17:9, 23). 2. The resurrection means that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, as He claimed to be, and that He has power over life and death. 3. The resurrection proves that salvation is complete, that on the cross Christ conquered sin, death, and hell and rose victorious. 4. The resurrection proves that the church has been established. Jesus had declared, 'I will build My church; and the gates of Hades shall not overpower it' (Mt. 16:8)... His resurrection proved that death itself could not prevent Christ from establishing His church. 5. The resurrection proves that judgment is coming. Jesus declared that the heavenly Father 'has given all judgment to the Son' (Jn. 5:22), and since the Son is now risen and alive, His judgment is certain. 6. The resurrection of Jesus Christ proves that heaven is waiting. Jesus promised, 'In My house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you' (Jn. 14:2). Because Christ is alive by the resurrection, believers have the assurance that He is now preparing a heavenly dwelling for them.

INGREDIENTS

5 Oranges; large, juicy
4 tb Sugar
6 Egg yolks
2 tb Sherry
1 ts Rosewater; optional
4 oz Butter; 1/2 cup
1 c Heavy cream
Crystallized violets;for decoration, optional

INSTRUCTIONS

To prepare the Orange Shells: Hold the orange so the stalk (or navel) is at
the base and using a small knife cut off the top about two inches down.
Scoop out all the flesh, being carefully not to break the skin. This can be
done quite easily with a teaspoon. Using a pair of scissors, cut off the
stalk that remains in the bottom, wash the orange and set it aside (the top
can be discarded). Repeat this procedure with three more of the oranges.
Grate the peel off the remaining orange and then squeeze the juice from
this orange into the bowl. Place the flesh you have extracted from the
other oranges in the sieve and squeeze the juice in the same bowl. Mix the
juice with the sugar and egg yolks in a double boiler over low heat. Beat
with a wire whisk until the mixture begins to thicken. Remove the top of
the double boiler and cool in a bowl of cold water while you continue to
stir; then add the sherry and rosewater. Remove the bowl from the cold
water. Cut the butter into 1-inch cubes and mash it into the mixture piece
by piece. Add the orange peel. Whip 3/4 of the cream and fold it into the
mixture. Pour the mixture into the four orange shells and refrigerate for
at least 2 hours. Before serving, place three crystallized violets on the
top of each orange; whip the remaining cream and force it through a pastry
tube in a curly pattern around the top edges. SERVES:4
