Spiritual battles are fought on the turf of the human mind. It is not about identifying territorial demons or binding demons or rebuking demons. So are we battling the forces of darkness? Yes, because our ultimate battle is “not against flesh and blood” (Eph. 6:12), but no, because we are not called in Scripture to go toe-to-toe engaging in hand-to-hand combat with demonic forces. The war is over the control of human minds. Our aim is to liberate people from demonic strongholds. We are to free the prisoners of war. Our call is to convert not demons, but people. The arena therefore is not mystical, but intellectual. Therefore, according to 2 Corinthians 10:5, we “destroy [intellectual things] raised up against the knowledge of God.” How? We do it with the Word of God. We combat the error that has already been sown in people’s minds with truth. We, verse 5, “are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” This shows that the primary problem is that people have a wrong understanding of Christ.

When the law was written on tablets of stone, there was a significant weakness. The weakness of the Old Covenant was not in the law. The weakness of the Old Covenant was the people’s hearts. They couldn’t keep the law because they lacked two basic ingredients. Both of them interestingly were mentioned in the Old Testament when God used His prophets to speak while under the Old Covenant of the coming New Covenant. First, as God said through Jeremiah, “I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it” (Jer. 31:34). The writing of the law went from tablets of stone to tablets of human hearts (2 Cor. 3:3). And second, as God said through Ezekiel, “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances” (Eze. 36:27). We by far have greater power to obey the law with the fullness of the Holy Spirit dwelling within us as God says, “causing” us to obey. So there should be a radical difference between us and Israel. It’s not in the God we serve. It’s not in the desire to obey Him. It’s not in the faith of a Messiah to take away our sins. It’s not in a law that is given from God to be obeyed. It’s not even in a delight in that law. The difference is simply this. The Old Covenant is characterized by people who were stiff-necked and rebellious (Dt. 9:6; 10:16; 31:27), whereas the New Covenant is characterized by people who have soft hearts and the ability to obey.

    • Chermoula – Marinated Grilled Tuna on Tabbouleh

    INGREDIENTS

    2 6 oz tuna steaks
    3 Garlic cloves; crushed with a
    ; little salt
    2 tb Harissa
    1/2 bn Coriander; chopped
    1/2 bn Flat parsley; roughly chopped
    1 ts Cumin
    1 ts Paprika
    1 Chilli; finely chopped
    2 tb Aged red wine vinegar
    3 tb Balsamic vinegar
    4 tb Extra virgin olive oil
    3 oz Burghal; soaked in boiling
    ; water for 1/2 hour
    ; then drained and
    ; squeezed dry
    Salt and pepper
    2 Lemons; juice of
    3 fl Extra virgin olive oil
    8 tb Flat leaf parsley; finely chopped
    3 tb Mint; finely chopped
    1 bn Spring onions; washed and chopped
    2 Plum tomatoes; seeded and diced

    INSTRUCTIONS

    TABBOULEH
Marinade:
Put into the blender the chillies, cumin, paprika, balsamic vinegar,
aged red wine, coriander, harissa, garlic and parsley.
Add to the mixture the extra virgin olive oil. Take the tuna and
slice off the skin and then cut the fish into chunks, or cubes for
scouring. The tuna can then be placed onto the barbecue to be
chargrilled for 2 minutes on each side.
Tabbouleh salad:
Squeeze the juice of 2 lemons and olive oil over the soaked burghal
and mix together.
Leave this to stand for 30 minutes and then add the parsley and spring
onions. Season and top with tomatoes.
Pour the tuna marinade on top of the tuna and serve with the tabbouleh
salad.
