God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)
How few know how to deal with an ignorant, worldly man, for his conversion! To get within him and win upon him; to suit our speech to his condition and temper; to choose the meetest subjects, and follow them with a holy mixture of seriousness, and terror, and love, and meekness, and evangelical allurements – oh! who is fit for such a thing?
There is a softening of attitudes. This accounts in large measure for soft teaching. Rather than glorying in the grandeur of God’s eternal plan of gracious redemption before Arminian friends, [Calvinists] hem and haw about it, trying above all else to “get along.” Assuming that their consciences are not yet seared, they harbor a sense of guilt, knowing that they should defend truth against weak, unscriptural teaching that exalts man by lowering God. Yet, for the sake of “peace” they never speak out.

After cutting fruit soak fruit in apple juice, or the rum , if you prefer.
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and beat well. Add dry ingredients and
fruit. If it is too stiff add a little cherry or fruit juice. Bake two
hours @ 275°. Put a pan of water in the oven to prevent over drying.
