Prayer is reaching out and after the unseen; fasting, letting go of all that is seen and temporal. Fasting helps express, deepens, confirms the resolution that we are ready to sacrifice anything, even ourselves, to attain what we seek for the kingdom of God.
Trusting God doesn’t give us an excuse to idly sit back, doing nothing. Praying to God and asking Him to help doesn’t allow us to be lazy. We need to trust God and do our part in the strength and guidance He provides.
This is another from my childhood. During World War II my mother was very
clever at stretching the food dollar. In this case one 6-1/2-ounce can of
minced clams was drained and added to the basic batter. That is the flavor
of the Pacific Northwest.
