We Love God!

God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

Social ethics must never be substituted for personal ethics. Crusading can easily become a dodge for facing up to one's lack of personal morality. By the same token, even if I am a model of personal righteousness, that does not excuse my participation in social evil. The man who is faithful to his wife while he exercises bigotry toward his neighbor is no better than the adulterer who crusades for social justice. What God requires is justice both personal and social.

Love is very much a matter of actions rather than emotions. However, although this emphasis on acts of love is certainly necessary, we can sometimes give the impression that love doesn’t involve any emotion – that it is entirely an act of the will, of one’s duty, regardless of how one feels. We can even promote the “I can love him but I can’t like him” type of attitude. The Bible does not support such an unbalanced concept of love…fervently, fondly, and affectionately (are used in the Bible) to describe the love Christians ought to have for one another… Obviously such a fervency of spirit cannot substitute for loving actions, but surely it should accompany them. We dare not settle for less.

Dairy American Sauce 4 Servings

INGREDIENTS

2 up to
3 T Pan drippings
2 T Butter
4 T Flour
2 c Milk
Salt & pepper to taste

INSTRUCTIONS

After frying chicken or pork chops in a skillet, pour off the grease,
leaving 2 to 3 tablespoons in the pan. Add 2 tablespoons butter, 4
tablespoons flour, and stir and cook until golden brown. Using a wire
whip, add 2 cups of milk to the pan, stirring constantly until the
mixture thickens. Add salt and pepper to taste. The gravy is served
over hot biscuits or rice. I am told that in Georgia one never pours
the gravy over the chicken. From <The Frugal Gourmet Cooks American>.
