There’s a good and vital reason Paul said, “Lay hands suddenly on no man” (1 Tim. 5:22). The biblical qualifications for elders are all characteristics of godliness and giftedness that must be proven over time. A man may instinctively know how to make a good first impression. He superficially appears to be keen-thinking, knowledgeable, mature, or supremely gifted as a teacher. But he could actually have serious character flaws that would disqualify him from eldership, and these sometimes become plainly evident only through long-term patterns of behavior. It is vital therefore that church leaders “first be proved; then let them use the office” (1 Tim. 3:10).

I'm planning to be civil toward any of my neighbors who may be heading for the local mosque. But in no way will I accept the charge that to tell them of the truth of the gospel of Jesus is to jeopardize the 'pluralism' that has made America a great springboard of freedom for so many generations. And no way either will I concede the right – a right that has now become a duty – to tell them that the error of their thinking is profound. I will do that not because I hate them, but because I love them.

Quick Apple Dessert

INGREDIENTS

4	lg	Tart apples — peeled and
		Sliced
1/2	c	Orange juice
1/2	c	Sugar
1/2	ts	Cinnamon

INSTRUCTIONS

Place the apple slices in an ungreased 9" square pan.  Pour the orange
juice over it and sprinkle with the sugar and cinnamon. Place the following
crumb mixture over the top CRUMB MIXTURE 1 cup graham crackers (i like
honey grahams) 3 T. melted butter (or margarine) Sprinkle this mixture over
the apples.  Cover the pan with foil, and bake at 400 for 25-30 minutes.
Remove foil and continue baking 5-10 minutes more.
