INGREDIENTS

1/2 c Shortening
1 c Sugar
1 c Applesauce
1 Egg
1 ts Vanilla
2 c Sifted flour
1 ts Soda
1/2 ts Salt
1/2 ts Cloves
1 ts EACH cinnamon & nutmeg
1 c Raisins
1/2 c Chopped nuts

INSTRUCTIONS

Cream the shortening and sugar, then mix in the applesauce, egg, & vanilla.
Sift together the dry ingredients and add to wet. Stir in the raisins and
nuts. Mix well. Spread in greased 13x9x2" pan. bake 35-45 minutes in 350
degree oven. Frost with a powdered sugar frosting while still warn. cut
into bars.
Notes - I would probably grease AND flour the pan, to make them easier to
get out. I also used black walnuts this time - Very Tasty! These bars are
very solid & rich, and can be cut fairly small.
