Super-easy Split Pea Soup

INGREDIENTS

1 Dried split peas, rinsed and
cleaned
according to
package directions
14 ounces
7 c Water
2 Beef bouillon cubes
1 Onion, finely chopped
1 c Grated carrots, 2 to 3
carrots
1/2 t Salt
1/2 t Black pepper

INSTRUCTIONS

Combine all the ingredients in a soup pot; mix well. Bring to a boil
over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 1
hour, or until the peas are soft and thoroughly cooked, stirring
occasionally.  Note: To add a traditional smoky ham flavor, stir in 1
teaspoon of  liquid smoke (found in the supermarket spice section)
after the soup  comes to a boil. For a heartier soup, add some chopped
deli ham or  smoked turkey.  Air date: January 4, 1999.  Converted by
