- Islam: name of religion
- Muslim: a follower of Islam
- Quran (or Koran): collection of recitations and revelations
- Sarah: divisions (chapters) of the Koran – there are 114 revelations in the Koran
- Hadith: collection of traditions, customs that provide sense of social/political structure
- Caliph: leader of Islam (immediate successors of Muhammed)
- Ayatollah: spiritual master/leader
- Shahada: confession of the Muslim which states ‘There is no god but Allah, and Muhammed is the prophet of Allah.’
- Muhammed: born in Mecca 570 – 632 AD and claimed to be a prophet sent to restore true religion.
- Accepted Scriptures:
- Law of Moses
- Psalms of David
- Injil: gospel of Jesus Christ
- Koran – which supersedes all other scriptures
