We Love God!

God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

I care not where I go, or how I live, or what I endure so that I may save souls. When I sleep I dream of them; when I awake they are first in my thoughts…no amount of scholastic attainment, of able and profound exposition of brilliant and stirring eloquence can atone for the absence of a deep impassioned sympathetic love for human souls.
David Brainerd

Self-denial corrects two evil tendencies ever attacking Christian ethics. There is a tendency to give more attention to outward standards than to the inward state of the heart. And there is a tendency to be strict with others and lenient with oneself… These two dragons are slain by the sword of self-denial when their heads appear in the land of Christian liberty.

Work Like The Devil And What Do

Work Like The Devil And What Do 56 BC-30-4A “WORK LIKE THE DEVIL AND WHAT DO YOU GET?” Mt. 13:24-30 (v. 25)

INTRODUCTION:

  1. This parable is given to tell us about the kingdom of heaven
  2. Verses 37-43 explain the parable
    1. The field is the world
    2. The good seed are the children of the kingdom
    3. The tares are the children of the wicked one
    4. The harvest is the end of the world
    5. The reapers are the angels of heaven
  3. The Son of Man sows the good seed
  4. Satan is the enemy that sows tares. Let us look at them:
  5. SATAN SOWS TARES OF DOUBT
  6. Doubt each other
  7. Doubt God’s love or concern for us
  8. Doubt God
  9. If you doubt God, you will rebel against His kingdom

II. SATAN SOWS TARES OF REBELLION

  1. Say “NO” to commands of holiness (even to salvation)
  2. Say “NO” to requests to work in some ministry
  3. Say “NO” to those in authority over us in the Lord
  4. Those who refuse to subject themselves to authority will resent that authority

III. SATAN SOWS TARES OF HATRED

  1. Hatred is common in the world
  2. But LOVE is commanded of God’s seed
  3. According to the DAVIS DICTIONARY OF THE BIBLE, tares is a Greek word denoting the bearded darnel which is a “poisonous grass, almost undistinguishable from wheat while the two are only in blade, but which can be separated without difficulty when they come into ear.”
  4. Tares may look like wheat but they are still poison

IV. SATAN’S WORK WAS DONE “WHILE MEN SLEPT”

  1. Sleep of carelessness
    1. In the way life is lived
    2. In a lack of concern for others
  2. Sleep of postponement
  3. We must WAKE UP or Satan will sow tares around us
