The flesh is the old life, the natural life inherited from Adam, with its apparent resources of personality, of ancestry, of commitment, of dedication, and so forth. You can do all kinds of religious things in the flesh. The flesh can preach a sermon. The flesh can sing in the choir. The flesh can act as an usher. The flesh can lead people to Christ. Did you know that? The flesh can go out and be very zealous in its witnessing and amass a terribly impressive list of people won to Christ, scalps to hang on a belt. The flesh can do these things but it is absolutely nauseating in the eyes of God. It is merely religious activity. There is nothing wrong with what is being done, but what is terribly wrong is the power being relied upon to do it (Ray Stedman).

There are…some who believe that it was likely during the Feast of Tabernacles that Jesus was born. While we celebrate Christ’s birth on December 25, most scholars acknowledge that this tradition was begun in the fourth century AD by the Roman Catholic Church and that the exact day of Jesus’ birth is unknown. Some of the evidence that Jesus might have been born earlier in the year during the Feast of the Tabernacles includes the fact that it would be unlikely for shepherds to still be in the field with their sheep in December, which is in the middle of the winter, but it would have been likely they were in the fields tending sheep at the time of the Feast of Tabernacles. The strong possibility that Jesus was born at the time of the Feast of Tabernacles is also seen in the words John wrote in John 1:14. “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” The word John chose to speak of Jesus “dwelling” among us is the word tabernacle, which simply means to “dwell in a tent.”

Apple-ginger Pudding

INGREDIENTS

6 T Butter
3 c Apples, peeled cored and
sliced
3 T Plus 1/2 cup sugar
1/2 c Finely diced crystalized
ginger
3 1/2 c Firm textured white bread in
1/2" cubes
3 Eggs
2 c Milk
1 t Vanilla extract
1/4 t Ground ginger

INSTRUCTIONS

Butter a six to 8 cup mold, casserole or baking dish. Melt two
tablespoons of the butter in a large heavy skillet over medium-high
heat. When the foam subsides. add the apples, increase to high and
saute the apples, turning them frequently for about 5 minutes until
they begin to color. Do not allow them to become soft or lose their
shape.  3.Add three tablespoons of sugar and saute another minute or
two  until the sugar begins to carmelize. Stir in the crystalized
ginger,  remove from heat and transfer the apples and ginger to a bowl.
4. Reduce heat to low, add the remaining four tablespoons of butter  to
the skillet. When the butter has melted, scrape the pan to loosen  any
bits of carmelized sugar clinging to it. Add the bread cubes and  toss
them in the butter until they are evenly coated.  5. Scatter half the
apples and ginger into the baking dish.Cover with  half the bread
cubes. Repeat the layers.  6. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.  7. Lightly
beat the eggs and one-half cup of sugar. Scald the milk.  Slowly pour
the scalded milk in a thin stream into the egg mixture,  stirring
constantly. Stir in the vanilla and ground ginger. Pour over  the
apples and bread in the baking dish.  8. Set the dish in a pan and add
boiling water to come halfway up the  sides of the baking dish. Place
in the middle of the oven and bake 45  minutes, until the top is crusty
