Despite our seemingly casual attitude toward it, slander is a particularly destructive sin. Writing in the 1828 edition of his dictionary, Noah Webster defined slander as “a false tale or report maliciously uttered, and tending to injure the reputation of another by lessening him in the esteem of his fellow citizens, by exposing him to impeachment and punishment, or by impairing his means of living.” Slander strikes at people’s dignity, defames their character, and destroys their reputation – their most priceless worldly asset (Proverbs 22:1; Ecclesiastes 7:1).
I heard of a man who said to the preacher, “I want to sing in your choir.” The preacher replied, “But you don’t belong here. Where do you have your membership?” He said, “I don’t belong to any local church. I belong to the invisible church.” The pastor said, “Then I suggest that you join the invisible choir.”
Drain artichokes, cut in quarters. Beat eggs; add Neufchatel, cottage
cheese and buttermilk. Add grated cheese. Stir in seasonings and crumbled
bacon. Place artichokes in bottom of pie shell; pour cheese mixture over
artichokes. Bake at 375 for 50 to 60 minutes or until toothpick comes out
clean. Serves 4 to 6
