Spooned Halvah

INGREDIENTS

6 tb Butter
1 c Cream of wheat
1/2 c Chopped nuts or pignolia nuts (optional)
2 c Water
1 c Sugar
Cinnamon

From "Popular Greek Recipes"  put out by the Ladies' Philoptochos Society
of Charleston SC.
Melt butter in a deep pan; add cream of what and nuts.  With wooden spoon
stir over moderate heat until golden, about 10 minutes.
Meanwhile bring water and sugar to a slow boil..  Cook 3 minutes.  Pour
syrup slowly over cream of what and simmer, stirring until slightly
thickened. Remove from heat. Cover; let stand 10 minutes. Shape with
individual molds turn out onto plates and sprinkle with cinnamon. OR, fill
ungreased 9 inch square pan and sprinkle with cinnamon. Cut into sqaures
and serve.
I believe this is called spooned halva because in the villages in Greece
they use a spoon to shape the halva.
