Super-Easy Split Pea Soup

INGREDIENTS

1 pk Dried split peas; rinsed and cleaned

; package directions
; (14 ounces)
7 c Water
2 Beef bouillon cubes
1 md Onion; finely chopped
1 c Grated carrots; (2 to 3 carrots)
1/2 ts Salt
1/2 ts Black pepper

INSTRUCTIONS

Combine all the ingredients in a soup pot; mix well. Bring to a boil over
medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 1 hour, or
until the peas are soft and thoroughly cooked, stirring occasionally.
Note: To add a traditional smoky ham flavor, stir in 1 teaspoon of liquid
smoke (found in the supermarket spice section) after the soup comes to a
boil. For a heartier soup, add some chopped deli ham or smoked turkey.
