White Sauce (Bechamel)

INGREDIENTS

2 tb Butter
2 tb Flour
1 c Milk
1 sm Onion studded with (up to)
3 Whole cloves
1/2 sm Bay leaf
Grating of nutmeg

INSTRUCTIONS

Melt butter over low heat.  Add and blend in flour over low heat for 3 to 5
minutes.  Slowly stir in milk. Add onion studded with cloves and bay leaf.
Cook and stir the sauce with a wirw whisk or wooden spoon until thickened
and smooth. Place in a 350-degree oven for 20 minutes to slowly cook.
Strain the sauce and season to taste. Add a grating of nutmeg.
