INGREDIENTS

2 c Dried Pinto Beans
5 c Water
1/2 ts Garlic Powder
Salt; To Taste
1 sm Onion
1 ts Brown Sugar
1/2 c Salt Pork; Or, 6 Slices Of Bacon, Cut Up
1/2 ts Cumin
1/2 ts Oregano

INSTRUCTIONS

Wash beans and soak them in water at least 4 hours or as long as overnight.
Drain water from beans.
Place beans in large pot with remaining ingredients except salt and bring
to a boil. Immediately reduce heat and cook over low heat until beans are
tender, adding salt only during last 15 minutes of cooking.
If you use a pressure cooker, remove the top at the end of the cooking
period and boil rapidly at least 15 minutes.
