Ministry Experience Inventory

This Inventory is based on what you are actually doing, not just
what you like to do,  If you are a young Christian (two years or younger in
the Lord) or have not been active in a local church for a considerable time you may
want to wait and take this Inventory after you qualify in these two areas.

If you decide to take the Inventory anyway, it can be helpful in acting as a
springboard for discussion with other believers and as a guideline for
possible future ministry.

It is important to remember that your ability to discover and develop
your spiritual gifts and ministries is normally in direct proportion to your:
1) emotional maturity2) maturity in Christ

3) continued use of the gifts

4) joy experienced while exercising the gifts

5) effectiveness in exercising the gifts

Since such factors are constantly changing throughout your Christian
life, you will do well to take the Inventory again at a later date. Compare those finding with
those you have determined at this point. While this Inventory may be helpful to you, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD THE RESULTS BE CONSIDERED CONCLUSIVE IN AND OF THEMSELVES. The call of God on your life, your personal desires, and the confirmation of other Christians may be equally, if not more, important factors to consider.

INSTRUCTIONS

Below are 210 statements to help your identify your spiritual gifts.
Rate yourself according to the following scale, by writing the appropriate
number in the corresponding numbered square on your answer sheet on the last
page:

4 – frequently

If you read a statement that does not exactly describe your experience,
but by changing it slightly it would be true of you without altering the basic
truth of principle involved, then give yourself credit for the modified statement
which implies the same outward expression of the gift.

Order Of Priorities Analysis

A. “We need more programs that care for those in need; more outreach into the community and the world.”

If you were given the responsibility for determining the direction your local church fellowship should take, which of the following areas would you choose to emphasize?
Place the number “1” on the line under the box of your first choice, the number “2” on the line of your second choice, etc.
E. “We need more preaching that exposes sin; emphasis on righteous living, making Jesus Lord.”

B. “What this church needs is a greater concern for individual counseling to instruct and encourage.”

F. “We need more communication among members; more organization to promote a smooth-running church.”

C. “Out problem is that we need to have more Bible study – both in large and small groups, several times a week.”

Remember – all of the areas are vital to the life of the church.  The question you are to consider is, “In your opinion, which is the most important?”
G. “Our people need to expand their missionary giving
locally and around the world.”

D. “We need to know how to put into practice the truth of God’s word; more practical application of the Bible.”

Basic Motivational Responses

A. “Please let me help you brush yourself off and bandage that cut.”

E. “If your bike is damaged, I’ll be glad to pay for having it repaired.”

B. “The reason you fell was because you came around the corner too fast.”

F. “Don’t feel badly, it could have happened to anyone.”

C. “The next time you will know what not to do.”

G. “Let me help you up; then I’ll take you home.  Do you want
me to call your mom first?”

D. “That’s what happens when you are not careful.”

Which of the above responses would you have made?  Why?

Confirmation Of Others Analysis

The confirmation of other believers is the single most reliable indicator
of your spiritual gift mix.  It is, therefore, to your advantage to
have several Christians who know you well and whose spiritual maturity
you respect fill out this analysis for you.

HOWEVER, it is imperative that you and the one(s) completing the analysis
meet most of all of the conditions outlined below.  Otherwise, the
accuracy and value of the analysis is questionable.

You and the Christian completing the Analysis should be:

  1. An active member of a Christian fellowship that teaches and
    practices Body ministry.
  2. A part of a fellowship that has a healthy balance between inward spiritual
growth and holiness, and outward ministry to the world.
  3. An active member of a small koinonia-type (fellowship) group in
which the individual members have a regular opportunity to minister to
    one another.
  4. A member of a church where there is a core of elders or leaders with complementary
spiritual gifts directing the spiritual and numerical growth of the church.
  5. A part of a local church where there is balanced teaching about all
    of the spiritual gifts.
  6. A member of a fellowship where believers are not only free to discover,
exercise, and develop their spiritual gifts, but are strongly encouraged
to do so.  There may be, for example, a discipleship training program
oriented along the lines of spiritual gifts and Body ministry.
  7. An active member of a local church fellowship where people participate
deeply – sot superficially – in the gathered church functions of a) teaching,
    b) fellowship, c) the Lord’s Supper, d) prayer, and e) discipline.

If you, like many Christians, are vitally interested in discovering and
developing your spiritual gifts but are led of the Lord to fellowship in
a church where there is little or no interest in Body ministry, a second
best approach would be to ask someone outside of your church to complete
the Analysis for you, providing they have a good understanding of
spiritual gifts and Body ministry, and they know you well.
