What the Bible says about the: Doctrine of ‘Hell’

    1. Context affects interpretation.
    The Hebrew word ‘lechem’ is translated as:
    – feast – food – fruit – loaf – meat – provision
    2. Matt 5:22 and Matt 18:9 portrays the word ‘Gehenna’ the hell of fire.
    3. Gehenna is further described in Mark 9:43 – 44 as as place ‘where the worm dieth not, and the the fire is not quenched’
    4. Gehenna, the place in the Valley of Hinnom where ancient human sacrifices were offered (II Chr 33:6, Jer 7:31) and where the continuos burning of rubbish illustrated the unending judgment upon the wicked.
    5. The Jehovah’s Witnesses’ definition of hell as ‘extinction or unconsciousness’ not found in any Hebrew or Greek text of the Bible.
